New York City stands as the most populated city in the greater United States. It is known as the hub of entertainment and financial services all around the world. There are massive amounts of tourist attractions, cuisine, and tradition that makes New York City the symbol of liberty and culture.

A Rich Immigrant History

It was primarily created as a place of trade by the Dutch in the early 1600s. Today’s Lower Manhattan was where the trading usually occurred, and it was a central location at this time. In the late 1600s, Britain took over the city and locations nearby. The city was named New York due to King Charles II’s brother, the Duke of York. The city became the largest city in the United States in the late 1700s and was even given the decorated title of being the first capital of the United States. President George Washington was inaugurated there in 1789. Another symbol of New York City is the Statue of Liberty. Many immigrants from around the world took the voyage by ship, passing the Statue of Liberty. This occurred in the 19th and 20th centuries. Thus, the statue became a metaphor for the freedom and peace the United States offers to each and every one of its citizens, whether born here or not.

The Perfect, Chilly Climate

There is a humid climate in New York City, but it could also extend to a subtropical type atmosphere. The summers are an excellent time in New York, as July and August have some of the nicest weather all year round. New York is also very cold and cloudy throughout the year, and snow is often seen during wintertime. Thus, January remains one of the chilliest months of the year. The heat somehow differs from the west coast cities. It is not necessarily dry weather but does offer that massive humidity causing people to feel sticky and sweaty.
