Welcome to China, a diverse country full of rich history and vibrant culture. China is where the beauty of the past meets the technology of the future, where one might wander into an ancient temple and then speed off to do business in a high-tech skyscraper. In China there’s always something to do and places to explore – from historic temples to the most modern of shopping centers, the ancient country of China has something to offer for even the most seasoned traveler.

Explore Rich Ancient Culture

If modern China is somewhat intimidating to you, there are plenty of ancient historical sights to explore. Learn calligraphy and Kung Fu in Yangshuo, then take a walk down ancient city streets and imagine life as it may have been hundreds of years ago in the Ming dynasty. Visit the Longmen Grottoes in Luoyang, home to thousands of caves, and statues of the revered Buddha. It also houses over sixty Buddhist pagodas and close to 2,500 stelae.

Get Lost in the Alluring Countryside

While large skyscrapers or ancient temples spring to mind for most people when they think of China, the country also boasts a rich and gorgeous countryside. Seven of the world’s twelve mountain peaks over 8,000 meters above sea level are situated in China, and you could hike all of them. Almost a fourth of China’s total land area is a beautiful forest, home to tigers, panda bears, and monkeys. Visit some of China’s charming smaller towns, such as Zhouzhuang, sometimes called ‘Venice of the East’. China’s climate is also incredibly diverse, so no matter your weather preference, there will be a place for you. Hainan Island is as warm as Jamaica, while Harbin in the north has a climate similar to Montreal. There are bamboo forests and even desert steppes.

Beautiful Historic Architecture

Almost everyone knows about the Great Wall, China is also blessed with numerous ornate and ancient temples. Mount Tai houses a sprawling network of mountaintop monasteries to explore and experience and is a popular spot for pilgrimage. A trip to one of the many ancient pagodas, such as Big Wild Goose Pagoda is a must for visitors to China.

Beijing and the Forbidden City

Beijing is the most populous national capital in the world, with over 21.5 million residents and a distinguished history going back over 3,000 years. A vast array of important sites are situated in Beijing, such as the Forbidden City, home to the Ming and Qing dynasty rulers. You can also visit Mao Zedong’s mausoleum, or the National Museum of China, which displays a huge collection of historical relics. Beijing is constantly changing as it races toward modernization, while at the same time preserving the past. Check out some modern art in the 798 Art District, then relax and practice tai chi at the Temple of Heaven Park. The opportunities are endless, whether you prefer the old or the new.
